Blaine Melnyk

Coach

Email

Blaine Melnyk is a lifelong swimmer and lover of the sport.  He started swimming at six with the Saskatoon Goldfins and was swimming two a days at nine (and after knee surgery at thirteen saw the fault in this type of programming).  He swam for the University of Saskatchewan Huskie Swim Team and finalled at international level swim meets.  He is passionate about current swim trends and sneaking every bit of power out of a stroke and every bit of speed out of a turn or start.  He has coached on and off since 1998 including a stint as the head coach of an age group team in Arizona.  He says he "mixes up drills like a rapper mixes rhymes and a baker mixes cake." He wants every swimmer to watch and idolize world class swimmers like hockey kids idolize Crosby.  "Find someone who swims your same stroke and watch everything they do; follow their training philosophies and try to emulate their work ethic and swimming intelligence." I loved the butterfly of Pablo Morales (Stanford Swimming USA) and the freestyle of Ian Thorpe (Australia).
